Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) VCA Antibodies Test
This simple blood test checks for your body’s immune response to the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV)—the virus best known for causing glandular fever (also called mono). It looks for two types of antibodies your immune system makes in response to EBV:
VCA IgM antibodies – These show up early during a new or recent infection.
VCA IgG antibodies – These appear around the same time as symptoms and stay in your body for life, meaning you’ve had the virus before and now have long-term immunity.
This test helps your practitioner understand whether you’ve recently been infected, are currently fighting EBV, or had it in the past. It can also assist in investigating unexplained fatigue, immune issues, or recurring viral symptoms.
